Brief Description:

Fieldwork educators play a vital role in shaping future occupational therapists – but mentoring students while managing clinical demands can be challenging. This course offers practical, supportive strategies to help FWEs feel confident, prepared, and valued in their role. Participants will explore supervision approaches, feedback strategies, and resources that promote student success while supporting educator sustainability.

 

Speakers: Taylor Kozell, OTD, OTR/L, CBIS, CNS, PAq

Taylor Kozell, OTD, OTR/L, CBIS, CNS, PAq is a neurologic occupational therapist with a passion for aquatic therapy. She is an Assistant Professor of Practice and the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the UTC OTD program. Taylor holds her Aquaticist Certification through Aquatic Therapy University, where she also teaches, and contributes to the Certified Neuro Specialist course. She serves as Chair of TNOTA’s Student Involvement Committee and founded its Aquatic Therapy Community of Practice.

 

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will complete the following during this session:

  1. Differentiate Level I and Level II fieldwork by outlining key expectations, supervision requirements, and evaluation processes for each.
  2. Incorporate adult learning principles and learning theories to enhance supervision approaches and student engagement.
  3. Use effective feedback and evaluation strategies to support student growth and promote fair, competency-based assessment.
  4. Access resources and identify strategies that support confidence and ongoing development in the Fieldwork Educator role.
