Speakers: Jenna Hopkins, MOT, OTR/L

Jenna Hopkins is an occupational therapist at University Health Truman Medical Center, where she has practiced since 2016. Since March 2021, she has served as the primary outpatient occupational therapist at the Center for COVID Recovery—the only clinic of its kind still operating in the region—specializing in Long COVID and complex chronic conditions.

Jenna’s clinical focus includes supporting individuals with Long COVID, POTS, dysautonomia, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She helps clients navigate energy management, cognitive changes, pain, and the day-to-day challenges of often misunderstood conditions. Her approach is collaborative, evidence-informed, and grounded in practical strategies that adapt to real life.

Beyond her clinical work, Jenna is actively engaged in advancing Long COVID care at both local and national levels. She is a member of the Long COVID Physio international team and serves as a co-moderator for the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Long COVID Community of Practice. She has presented on rehabilitation strategies at national and state conferences, including AOTA (2023) and KOTA (2024, 2025), as well as BIAK and MOTA (2025) and presented at Rockhurst Ellen Spake lecture series (2026). Locally, she leads Long COVID KC, a community support group dedicated to education and connection for those affected by long COVID.

Learning Objectives:

  • Practitioners will identify major symptom clusters of Long COVID
  • Practitioners will identify current research and evidence-based assessment tools
  • Practitioners will identify and assess for post-exertional malaise and dysautonomia, including POTS

Course Description:

This presentation highlights the role of occupational therapy in supporting individuals with Long COVID and related chronic conditions. It will review major symptom clusters, including fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, pain, and autonomic disturbances, alongside the latest research guiding clinical care. Attendees will be introduced to practical, evidence-informed assessment tools to evaluate functional impact and support safe intervention planning. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing patterns that influence rehabilitation outcomes and adapting care to fluctuating symptoms.
